Spinal Decompression Therapy Shown to Be Effective at Improving Pain, Disability and More

Spinal Decompression

Statistics show that 80% of adults will experience lumbar pain at least once in their lifetime, many of these due to one or more herniated discs. Many studies show that non-surgical spinal decompression therapy helps improve both pain and disability.

At Atlas Chiropractic & Wellness Center in Duluth, we offer non-surgical spinal decompression therapy as a safe, effective and non-invasive method of helping your body correct and recover from a bulging or herniated disc.

The Research On Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

The “Surgical Alternatives: Spinal Decompression” journal article published in the Orthopedic Technology Review shared results showing 86% of patients who completed non-surgical spinal decompression experienced complete recovery after finishing treatment. 84% of them maintain a pain-free status 90 days after treatment. As far as physical improvement went, 92% displayed improvements and 89% maintained it three months later.

A small study in Anaesthesiology News reported more positive numbers for non-surgical spinal decompression. Over half experienced no more pain and 91% improved disability scores to the point where they were able to get their daily lives back.

Decompression therapy allows a bulging or herniated disc to retreat back in place and helps more blood reach the spine. Due to the spine’s anatomy, it doesn’t get much blood flow in the first place, making healing a slow process. Decompression helps speed things up so your spine can heal efficiently, helps you avoid the need for surgery, and provides pain relief surgery often can’t.
